UEFA was founded on 15 June 1954, in Basel, Switzerland after consultations between the Italian, French and Belgian Football Associations. Its objectives are, among other things, to deal with all questions relating to European football, to promote football in a spirit of unity, solidarity, peace, understanding and fair play, without any discrimination on the part of politics, race, religion, gender or any other reason, to safeguard the values of European football.

President's Address

Dear Delegates,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the very first edition of DEMUN! My name is Vedant Kedia, and it is an honour to be your president for the UEFA Council. UEFA is one of unconventional committees we’ve chosen this year and we’re very thrilled to see how the council advances. This council was given birth owing to the love of football, but for those of you who aren’t football fanatics, the agendas chosen are compelling and vast and will surely encourage you to participate enthusiastically.

The two agendas being discussed in the council are:

  • Reassessing the concept of UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) Regulations: FFP regulations are a set of requirements that every club participating in a UEFA competition has to meet. FFP rules were established in order to make sure that wealthy clubs do not get an advantage over minor, less wealthy clubs. These rules have faced a lot of criticism and potential loopholes have emerged.

  • Tackling Racism in European football: Racism prevails throughout the world, even in the world of football. UEFA spreads the message of “No to racism” through its competitions. Even though there are effective punishments in place to further the cause, events related to racism still do take place.

Both of these are critical issues tormenting football today and I look forward to what creative solutions you come up with in the committee.
The three days of the MUN are going to be very exciting and I eagerly look forward to hear each club’s view on both agendas.
As your president, I have a few expectations. Come prepared and be ready to take the heat. Always respect your fellow delegates. In the end remember that the committee will move forward as one complete body- Champions play as one!
If you have any doubts, feel free to send me an email at uefa.demun@gmail.com

Sincerely,
Vedant Kedia
President
